Briefly, but completely answer the
following questions. They follow the plotline.
Why is the
speed of the object so important? And the object itself?
The object is moving much faster than anything earthmade and it is moving under piloting so it is not a meteor.
Are the police
and army to keep order or to arrest?
This answer is a question call. They are there to attempt to defend if necessary. The public is behind a rope barrier. When Klatu and the Robot appear the military becomes very alert and when Klatu reaches for his gift, the military fires.
Why did people
in cities panic?
People panic because they do not recognize their surroundings as being the same. Any difference makes people uneasy. As much as they are curious, one thing can send them running scared.
Why was his
gift not recognized?
The gift was not recognized because Klatu's actions seemed similar to what a human would do if he were to draw a weapon. Humans are not very patient.
What caused the
spectators to run at the sight of Gort and not at the site of the spaceman?
Gort is gigantic and does not seem to have a face. Klatu looked human in spite of his space suit.
Why has Klatu
come? And the difficulties in accomplishing his purpose?
Klatu has come to speak at one time and place to all the rulers of all the countries of earth. He doesn't understand the petty politics that each country is involved in as they each think they are the most important country on the planet and their wishes should be agreed to.
What things
demonstrate KlatuÕs technology is superior to EarthÕs?
Klatu's civilization has extended aging well beyond human longevity. Their medicine is much quicker in taking effect. They travel in outer space. They have created robots. They learned English and probably other languages from receiving broadcasts from earth.
How does Klatu
learn about humans? With what effect?
He escapes the hospital room and pretends he is a Mr. Carpenter and rents a room at a boarding house so he can be with humans who have no idea he is a space man. They will treat him just like any other human.
Why would
Bobby be the best one to show Klatu (Carpenter) about?
Bobby is a child who has no preconceived notions about politics. Bobby shows him great places and doesn't think he is any different than a man who doesn't seem to know much about Washington D.C.
Was the
professorÕs door really locked? How do you know?
It would seem to be; Bobby tried it and it didn't open. With the mathematics on the board it would be difficult for one to imagine the room wasn't locked. Klatu, with all his other abilities may have the ability to surpass locks. Remember how he got out of the hospital?
Who came for
Carpenter (Klatu) and where did he take him?
A military aide who had been asked to find Mr. Carpenter so he could talk to him. The aid took Klatu to Professor Barnhart who wanted to know about his additions to his mathematics problem.
